Right outside mirror

Is it a plus or a minus to install a right side mirror on my '76 ??. When I ordered it 38+ years ago, the rt. mirror was a dealer installed option, which I didn't get. I could really use it now . Driving would be safer.
How many points would be deducted, if I install the correct right outside mirror ??

Ed, Its a safety item and the deduct for a rt. side mirror is small, maybe one point for the hole drilled through the fiberglass door panel.

Hi, Ed thanks for the compliment, I brought my mirror at Paragon corvette they really seem to do a great job on repro mirrors, My 72 went through judging a few times without a deduct. and the mirror glass can be dated to your drivers mirror.

I think there's only one manufacturer so order from whomever gives the best price and service. The deduction during judging is not from the presence of a mirror, but from the fact that holes are drilled in the body to mount it so there's some fibreglass 'missing'. Most judges will take a one point deduct as a result.

There is no other downside of having a passenger side mirror that I know of.

I have a dealer installed luggage rack on my 70 LT-1 & I lost 6 points for 6 holes.

Ken, I don't remember loosing that many points at the regional on my 72 with a luggage rack.I will have to look at my judging sheets when I get home later, Its seems it was only a few points.

Mine was judged twice & lost a point per hole which is 6 points. My Corvette has original paint so I am not going to take it off.

How long ago did that happen? With the CDCIF and Standard Deduction classes we have been holding I would expect that deduction to be less. I doubt I ever lost more than one point for my right hand mirror on my 1970, but it has been quite a while since I had it judged.

It was maybe 8/9 years ago in Auburn In. As I said it was a point a hole. If your mirror had 1 or 2 holes drilled it would be only 1 or 2 points at least that is what I was told at the time.

Two holes for the mirror in my case. Drilled 'em myself. I believe the current thinking would consider what part of the surface area is missing, but WTFDIK. Those Exterior judges are wacky.

Not saying who but I believe one was the guy that wears shorts all the time.
