Re: 1964 gas tank replace or attempt to repair.
Thanks Gary, tank looks solid. Shiny inside, no holes and it appears fuel filler neck gasket is the culprit causing the leak. I don't put fuel with ethanol in the car so I will get a new gasket from Quanta when I order anti squeck matierial (will double up as advised above). Straps are salvagable. I just need to knock surface rust off of them, prime and paint. I am going to replace bolts, nuts, washers. Suggestions on those? Hardware store or look for correct head marks?
When I was driving car last summer fuel needle on gauge bounced back and forth as gas sloshed around in the tank; and I don't think it read accurately. Sending unit wiring looks ok but connections are dirty and corroded. I am hoping when I clean the connections the fuel gauge will function properly. Looking at the price of replacing sending unit with an AC Delco is tough. If the connections aren't the problem with the gauge I'll have to replace it. Lastly, I appreciate this board and the help. I have only owned my car 1 year. I have thouroughly enjoyed driving and looking at it and the restoration process is rewarding. The local NCRS chapter has been very helpfull as well. Thanks again,mk
