Ok, Im stripping paint and undercoating from the bottom of my 75 roadster. The body is off and I can see where road debris has "media blasted" the bottom of the storage compartment. So much so that the fibers are sticking out and it has a powdery look. How does one refinish this? There is no damage, just looks bad. Can you skim coat resin on this? What will it look like? Also the right side #4 body mount was so bad that the caged nut assembly pulled through the fiberglass leaving a similar sized hole. Any repair ideas there?

Re: raw looking fiberglass
Ross, the fiberglass resin should work okay for strands repair, may take a few coats, then and block sand smooth if possible, As for the #4 body mount you'll want to buy some fiberglass mat 3M fiberglass mat can be brought at home depot as can the resin. step one would be cut the first layer slightly bigger than the patch area, working front the top side lay down one layer and let setup over night. (also a piece of masking tape on the bottom side will hold the first layer flat). next thing is drill hole the size of the bolt 7/16? where it will line up with frame. then next you want to fab a couple of pieces of flat stock metal with the same size holes, this will be used as a press mold used a nut and bolt to compress the layers for the next layers of mat to be added maybe 3 or 4 layers, wax paper can be used at this point to keep from sticking to the resin. I hope you have a idea on my instructions. I can be modified if you can make he layers all at once to the thickness of the mounting area. The clamping is the key to get the strength of the bond.
