1967 Gauge cluster - Ignition switch

Does the lock nut on the panel face just screw off? Mine unscrews only a few threads and then stops. See Pix.

I also found a small cardboard shield at bottom of light housing for the ignition switch. The orientation for re-installation is not known to me or even if it was there from GM as built. see pix. Comments please

Don, you will want to remove the lock cylinder first then the retainer. Put you key in a turn to first position and insert a paper clip into the 1/16 size hole and remove the cylinder with key installed. The card board piece is for the light bulb to light up the ignition cylinder hole where key inserts.

Edward, after inserting the paperclip in the hole and pushing in, you turn the key CCW from ACC position to remove the cylinder.

Edward, I usually forget after a few months of non instrument work, but I just did a '67 cluster recently so I had it close in my brain.
