My ash tray won't come out. Interference with the console. Manual says owner remove prior to judging. Suggestions? Randy

Re: 67 ash tray
Remove your console and take out the ash tray. Make sure it is an original or a better reproduction. Check, that there is no interference that prevents the slider door from opening all the way. Reinstall the console and try to insert the ash tray. If it doesn't go in you will have to look at your console mounting. Sometimes repro dash pads prevent the console from sitting in its proper location.
Hope this helps.

Re: 67 ash tray
The rivets holding the flanged side tab are sticking out too far and hanging up it's removal. Had the same issue with a repro some time ago. Maybe your original has a similar problem, or if a repro, for sure......
Yank it out with gloved fingers, grind down or file the rivets a bit, and it'll be fine.

Re: 67 ash tray
There was a GM service bulletin about this issue in 67. (or 66?) The instructions simply stated "loosen all of the console retaining screws and, using an awl or similar tool in one of the screw holes, gently pry the console in the required direction to provide clearance to remove the ash tray.- Top

I do recall the original in that '67 I tinkered with had it's original ashtray, and the owner wanted new. That repro was tougher to get out for sure, but the original struggled a bit too. I played around with the tray retainer after restoration of it and new screws after removing a few broken ones. That was fun. That repro had to be worked on a bit to get it out.
A little silicone lube is a good idea. I should've tried that.
