The hood support was painted. I removed the support from the car, and cleaned most all paint off. Judging manual says number 16077 was also stamped on originals. Is mine not original? Did repos have the "ATWOOD" stamp but not the number stamped? If some originals didn't have the number but did have "ATWOOD" will there points be deducted? Thanks everyone.
'64 hood support has "ATWOOD" stamped but I can't locate number.

I've observed hood supports having no more than 'ATWOOD' stamped into component.- Top

Thanks Michael. I wonder why judging manual describes a number as well. Thanks again.- Top

mine has 16077 stamped very faintly horizontally about 2.5" above the lower mount bracket.
ps. to below Mike,
at the very most you might see a 1 pt. deduct, or even just a comment, or nothing at all. Keep the bracket, and don't sweat the number.Last edited by Don H.; February 2, 2014, 02:43 PM.- Top

I agree 100% with Don. I've seen some supports where the number is so faint is very hard to find. You need the right light, good eyes, and know where to look.

A reproduction support will not work as crisply as an original. They typically hang up and you need several attempts to close the hood. Saying that, if the support work well every time and there is no number it's probably an original.

My early '65 as well. The 16077 is on the outboard side, at the location you mention; the Atwood is on my inboard side, near the top. Also, "Rockford Ill." is stamped immediately under the Atwood, in smaller font.- Top

Thanks everyone. I've got mine as clean as can be. Other than "ATWOOD" I can't find anything else. Harry, it works smoothly and since it has the stamping I am going to put it back on the car. I'll have to live with it if I get any deductions.- Top

Re: '64 hood support has "ATWOOD" stamped but I can't locate number.
When my 63 was first judged at Marlborough I got a ding because the hood support had the 16077 but no Atwood. I remember in the old days the original was bent so the one of the car was over the counter Chevy.
I found the original in my attic and it has the part number and Atwood both on it. But meanwhile I bought one from an NCRS friend that had the 16077 on it in an obsure place & the Atwood.
Michael, Just get yours cad plated and use it. JD- Top
