Stamp Pad Date vs. Serial Numbers

How likely is it that an engine date stamped on April 4 of a given year would have a serial number stamp that is 650+ numbers higher than another engine date stamped on April 7 of the same year? Both are small blocks; both are the same horsepower. I know blocks were pulled from the line and other oddities occurred from time to time, but 650 seems like an awfully huge difference in sequence.

Well..650 cars only represents about 1 week of production. Not a concern from my chair, but that assy stamp in the left picture has a funky vibe.

I agree with Tracy ,the left pad appears to be a restamp. and no broaching.

        Tracy,
You meant the April 4 stamp, correct? At first glance I'd be suspicious of the April 7 stamp, but would someone doing a fake stamp really allow it to look that dysfunctional?

Brian, I think that if you the casting dates this would help with something like this. Engines pulled from the assy. line may have some differences with casting dates but generally only days apart, the C3 cars are were mass produced . Assembly stamp dates like above would be acceptable, I Feel your only talking a few days of production. Also I think you could find some engines suffix stamps were hand stamped after the assy. stamp.

The stamping on the right has what could be considered to be typical the 2 zeros are of a different configuration or shape. The one on the left both zeros are the same. That is not to say one is correct or the other but the same shaped zero is a flag. Along with other indicators this would have to be seen in person. As Ed said what is the casting date could shed more light on the block.

Here is a photo of a stamp pad earlier but around you build time.

Yes, I'll have to get a look at the cast dates yet. One car is in AZ, the other in OH, so that may take a while. Seeing a variety of stamps would be helpful too!

                Hi Brian,
You asked about some other stamps.
Here's one for you to take a look at.
                Regards,

                  That's a nice pad.
My car's engine was built 2 weeks later and the pad looks very similar.
