    new use for old tool

i've had a snap-on tool HE 53 for years. its primary purpose is to grab the headlite bucket springs and attach the spring to the headlite bezel. i've used it on c-1 and c-2 for years. today i'm installing a set of al knock seat cover bottoms on a 64 vet seat. old Al Knoch has installed the 8 clips on the seat cover assembly that pull the cover down on the foam cushion. its always been a pain to fish a set of needle nose pliers thru the foam and grab the clip , pull clip thru foam and secure the clip to the metal rod that lies on the underside of the foam. the snap-on HR 53 replaces the needle nose pliers nicely. mike

I use an old coat hanger bent in a tight U, push it through the foam, attach the hook & pull it through.

I straightened 3 of the clips last week on my 63 seat bottoms. I started tearing up the foam. After an hour I just gave up.

I ended up using 14" black plastic electrical ties and cinching them down. Then I cut the excess off. Each seat bottom then took 15 minutes total time.

If GM had those ties in the 60's do you think they would have used those metal clips?

One of those tire plug installers works well too.

What tool do the employees of AL Knotch that do the installations at car events use when they are doing the installation?

Carl; Will those tools be used on teeth after being used on seats?
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
                  I hope you dance

I use an old manual choke cable with the end of the music wire cut off and bent in a hook - works great for headlight springs and seat work.
