My son wants to get a 6th gen Z 06. What would be considered high mileage?

Re: 6th gen Z 06
Bill IMO he should not look at anything with more than 70K on the clock. He will probably find the best values in the 30-40K range. The C5 & C6 cars can do 100K and still have a lot of miles left in them if they have not been tracked and had routine maintenance. I would be careful for cars with mods as a lot of Z's are driven hard and put up wet. I would try to buy from an original owner and have the car checked out. The computer stores all the history on the operating systems unless it has been flashed. From now till spring is the best time to buy. Watchout for cars that might have been in Sandy or other flood areas. Check the other Corvette Forums as there are a lot of these for sale. Good luck with the search.- Top

Re: 6th gen Z 06
I would recommend he look for the newest, lowest mileage car in his budget. Something else to seriously consider is for the car to have some form of remaining factory warranty. These cars can be expensive to fix and some have had issues with the valve train.
As Carl mentioned, many of the cars for sale today have been modified and driven hard. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just something to keep in mind when looking. I wanted a low mileage, non-modified car so my search took a bit longer to find the car I bought.
Good luck with the hunt. They are very solid cars. I love mine and can't wait for spring to take it out for a blast.

Re: 6th gen Z 06
Guys thanks. He just got out of the Marine Corps and his money is burning a hole in his pocket. We will take your advise and take our time to find the right car. Mechanically the mid years are always repairable, the computer cars scare me. Funny he was looking at an 07 Lemans Blue at a dealer in Conn. 56,000 miles $37K.- Top

Re: 6th gen Z 06
Do your research on these cars. Take what you read on the other forums about the valves with a grain of salt, but keep in mind that there may be some issue there. I know of two local cars that had valve issues. One was tracked, the other not........ Both required new engines.

PS: I paid a lot more then 37K for it though............1958, 283/245, White/red - Top Flight, October 2016

Re: 6th gen Z 06
Thus my comment about buying a Z06 with an existing warranty that can be extended..........
You know, for the money he is looking to spend he can get a real nice Z51 C6. I had one of those before I "upgraded" to the Z06. The base model with the Z51 option is a beast in itself and I really enjoyed that car.1958, 283/245, White/red - Top Flight, October 2016
