    64 Vette seat belt installation

I recently purchased a 1964 coupe that was delivered without seat belts. I plan on purchasing them and installing them myself. My question is how and where do you anchor them? Thanks Ron T.

Your 64 was originally delivered with seat belts. The mounting brackets are installed on each side of the seat rear. Just get the four bolts and screw them in. You need not take the seats out just slide them forward.

Purchase a copy of the 64 AIM.

Thanks for the info Harry but I don't see any mounting brackets. The seats were recovered so it's possible the brackets were covered over. Could you be more specific on where the brackets are located? Thanks again. Ron

They are riveted to the underside fiberglass. Just look under the car where the seats are.

I had the same problem with my 1963 Corvette, the previous owner probably had taken out the seat belts. I was able to locate the holes and reinstalled original seat belts.

Thanks for the reply Ruedi. Could you tell me how you were able to put a bolt in the door sides ?There is very little room. Also I don't see any holes for the belts to go thru the floor.

Ron, slide the seat forward and pull the carpet back. The holes to mount the belts are obvious unless some prior owner glassed them in. That fix is another story as that is a repair.

Harry, I pulled the carpet back as far as it would go and no holes in sight .The car is a frame off restoration so maybe it was glassed in like you said. If so what next.

Look under the car, can you see the two required brackets required for each seat? Post pictures of the inside and under the car.

Ron, If your brackets are missing in action The outboard one that closest to the frame side is really not accessible with the body on the car. and they are riveted to the body, The inboard ones can be installed on the car. The problems with those brackets were after 50 years the bolts broke or the weld nuts broke free and just spun the retainer bolt, Next step after that was to cut the bolt heads off and drill the rest of broken bolt out. and also the rivets tend to fall rot and the brackets fell out. Hopefully the brackets are still there under the fiberglass.

Hi Ed, The brackets look new with nuts welded on but the door sides look impossible to reach to install a bolt and I don't see any holes in floor on either side to push the belts thru.

I am replacing belts on my '64 roadsters. Outboard bolts were so rusted, wouldn't budge, hex heads stripped so have to drill + tap. Anyone have this experience? Thanks. Mike
