My 64 roadster trim tag STD indicates black vinyl seats but my seats are leather. I thought someone replaced them along the way until I read this on page 108 of June 1981 Vette Vues featuring the 1964. "Someone forgot to tell the individual that stamps numbers on trim plates for the'64 model run, leather interiors would be offered in all colors, not just saddle and that the 898 trim number should be used. This error was discovered later in the year and the 898 started to show up with all leather colors. The early cars though all had 490 trim numbers leather or vinyl, excluding only the saddle color, which was a carryover from '63".
I'm confused as to if my car came off the line stamped incorrectly with leather seats. The seats are correct for a '64. So do I lose points for wrong seat cover matierial? Anyone know anything about incorrect trim tags. My trim tag was not replaced. I estimate car was built at end of 1964 production on July 2nd. So it doesn't make sense that if they caught the error and corrected the trim plate stamping early on that mine would still have been stamped incorrectly. Or maybe it was? Thanks!Mike
