Okay, guys, here's the algorithm you need to program into the supercomputer; 225/60R-15s average about 815 revs/mile.

    Speed = RPM(60)/(axle ratio)(tire revs/mi)/trans ratio

My ancient TI calculator yields 69.6 MPH at 3500 for Luke's car, assuming a 3.70 axle, so his speedometer is reading 21 percent high. My Excel gear chart that I posted here a few weeks ago yields the same result.

The short tires only account for about 9-10 percent, so I suspect (assuming the tach is reasonably accurate) the speedometer gearing is mismatched to the installed axle ratio.

If the objective is to accumulate as many miles as possible... the same error applies to the odometer.

After one coffee this morning I counted 10.5 buttons on my flannel shirt. (because one broke in half from the clothes dryer malfunction last week)

Then after my second coffee and re-reading Lukes email, and Dukes equations, I used my MS calc.exe Stupidcomputer and came up with.....

      210000 / 3015.5 = 69.640192339578842646327308903996 MPH ((3500x60) / (3.7x815))

Ra-Ro......If his odometer is off, he needs to get something fixed before the next Flight meeting.

p.s. His tires are worn so the error is even worse. However, all of his other equipment may be worn. Remember the car has over 400,000 miles on it, and his odometer gears and transmission speedo gears may be skipping every once in a while, as well as worn tach drive gears.

So it all could be a wash.

I never got a follow up about Luke's return trip until yesterday. Chuck said he heard from him and made it back okay. But he had a slight mechanical issue close to home. A email I got yesterday from John, his CA to FL shotgunner.

Looks like Luke (Roadwalker) "had the force" with him.

        Hey Rich

Well, Luke made it back in about 4 or 5 days....can't remember. One days drive was from about an hour east of the Texas border
to El Paso.....running about 80-85 mph. He got about 2 hours from his house and pulled off the interstate to spend the night
with a friend. Just as he came to the exit stop sign and made a turn he heard a loud pop from the engine. He immediately
stopped the car and opened the hood....the air cleaner had vibrated loose and was laying next to the engine. The support
rod for the air cleaner was no where to be found, so assumed it went into the intake manifold!!

To make a long story short, he trailered the car to his shop, pulled the intake manifold and heads and found a broken valve
spring and no engine damage. Sure enough, he found the air cleaner support in the intake manifold!!

        It's always an adventure ......

Anyway, hope all is well with you and Chuck....looking forward to a Florida Keys trip

        Best

        John
