    Help needed in Kissimmee

Hello all. I am in trouble here. Everything's safe and secure now. I have an issue with my car. After I left the sportsman field I went to get a bite to eat and then return to old town to go on cruise. After dinner I went to start the car. I turned the key, the motor was about to start and all the sudden the key "popped" all the way forward and car didn't start. Tried again and it feels like the lock broke. Key goes in and out but just turns loosely. I called local friend who came out and we ended up getting a flatbed truck to have the car towed to his house. I wanted to secure the vehicle. Questions and requests now. What happened? Secondly is there anyone in the orlando area that can come out to the house and perhaps get it started? Lastly if not is there anyone in the area that has a car tow trailer and can offer their services to bring my car to south fla, miami area? Full compensation will be made. I have another ride to home tomorrow but need help to bring my little red car home. I am just glad that nothing serious just a bump in the road. Stuff happens. Please inquire within. Thanks. As an aside the meet was great but more on that later once I can figure out what to do here.

Hopefully you can get all of this sorted out. I made it back to Miami lastnight, but needed to stop in Ft Lauderdale for gas...didnt have enough to make the 240 drive. I was on dead empty when I got off the turnpike on the drive north.

Gary, roy, roger and others who contacted me. I got someone to go to the house to see if they can set up the car so I can at least start and stop motor and get the car home and then make final repairs. It will get worked out. It is a setback but much worse things could have happened. This is just a blip. I still love my car like a member of my family. She will get well soon. Thank yoi all who are helping me out. You guys are great!

The thieves in my neighborhood used to stick a screwdriver into the open lock socket to start and drive off with the cars back when. I think the place to put the screwdriver would be obvious.

I enjoyed meeting you. Your enthusiasm is infectious. I hope to see you at some NCRS events in the future. Safe journey home.

We too are spending some more time in the South, but it looks like we will have to go north before the winter is over.

Update. Car was looked at and although it can probably be adjusted ro start and stop there are major safety issues. I do not think it is wise to but lives on the line with me driving a car that the wheel can potentially lock up during driving. Options include checking grundy for towing plan to my house or have car towed to local shop. Also there are orher that I can be recommended for shipping car need be. I am leaving the car where it is for now and headed home tonight by other means. Thank you all for your help. It certainly has been an adventure!

                        Marc-

The steering interlock can easily be disabled and made safe for your drive home. Disconnect the push-pull cable in the engine compartment and tie the steering column lever up and with a tie wrap or coat hanger. We won't call you Bubba unless the temporary fix becomes permanent.

Mike by all means it would work. But I have concerns if I hit a bump and gets loose or something I could be stranded. There are two sections of turnpike that have nothing around for sixty miles. Also I would be afraid to turn off car which means putting gas in tank with motor running. That is a no no. It would be like when the challenger lifted off with flexing o rings and you know what happened. I think it is best to be conservative and see if I have towing plan with grundy and have the car do the drive on the flatbed. I hope I don't have to forfeit my sportsman ribbon but if I do it is what it is. Safety first.

Marc, I just got my Grundy bill. Towing on my policy states: $250.00 deductible. John

John great information on grundy. Although I am leaving town in an hour or so it appears we may get someone else to perhaps do a repair that would render the car safe for driving. I will be calling grundy to discuss possibility of using the towing oprion. The website sites 250 but I thought that was the max they pay but deductible makes more sense.
