    Fan clutch identification

    All,

    I am trying to determine the origin of the fan clutch on my '69. It is an Eaton clutch. The stamps read "Eaton CK" and "E5CB". It does not appear to be a '65-'67 clutch as it does not have the opposing sections w/o fins. Is this an over-the-counter replacement? See picture below.

    It's a GM #3916141. This fan clutch was used as a SERVICE replacement for most 60-70 applications for many years. It was also used in PRODUCTION for some applications in the 68-70 period. It's configuration did change in certain ways over the many years of its use and what you have here is a later example.

      Peter,

      Joe is correct. The "CK" fan-clutch = GM # 3916141.

      I believe that the "E5CB" date code = May 5, 1973. The Eaton fan clutches made in the 1970's (after 1971) seem to have the letter "B" added on to the date code.

      Examples of other Eaton fan clutch date codes:

      L27G = Nov. 27, 1966
      B13H = Feb. 13, 1967
      A3I = Jan. 3, 1968
      C7J = Mar. 7, 1969
      A23A = Jan. 23, 1970 (NOS fan clutch GM # 3938944 stamped "CS" replaced in March 1973 by GM # 3916141)
      A20A = Jan. 20, 1970 (Original 70 Z28 fan clutch stamped "CV")
      D9A = Apr. 9, 1970 (Original 70 Z28 fan clutch stamped "CV")
      E4B = May 4, 1971 (from 1971 Monte Carlo, 3976065 fan with fan clutch "EATON AG" and "E4B")
      E15FB = May 15, 1975 (from "3991431" fan dated "C75" or March 1975)
