Hello: I have a 1967 L71. Is there a special wrench out there that allows you to tighten the fuel inlet fitting without taking the carbs off? It would be nice to hold the inlet fitting while you are tightening the 3/8 gas line tube nut while the carbs are on the engine. Thanks for your time. John

If you mean tighten the inlet fitting while the tubing nut is tight, I don't recommend trying to do that, at all. You don't need to remove the carb, but you need to loosen the tubing nut before tightening the fitting. After the fitting is properly tightened, then tighten the tubing nut.
You should not need a special wrench to tighten the fitting. An open end wrench should do nicely. These fittings are not tightened to a high torque value. Try that and you'll likely strip the threads in the float bowl or crack the float bowl.
You should be able to use an open end wrench to hold the fitting while you use a TUBING WRENCH to tighten the tubing nut.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: carb wrench
There is a flat on the carburetor inlet fitting that (I think) uses a 5/8 or 11/16" wrench. The problem arises because the wrench needs to be thin or it interferes with the tubing nut. Get or make a thin open end wrench, don't tighten the fitting to bowl to tight and hold it while tightening the tubing nut.
Keep in mind that if you have a leak where the tubing goes into the fitting and tightening does not help, many times the flare in the carburetor fitting is wore and the fitting need to be replaced.- Top

Re: carb wrench
I took a box end and modified it like a crowsfoot wrench ( cut part of it out ) so it would clear the float bowl, that worked for me.- Top

Re: carb wrench
FWIW:
I talked to Snap-on and all the other major tool makers on this and to my knowledge no one makes this "obvious tool". Hard to
believe. I often wonder what the NASCAR teams used before they went to fuel injection. If anybody knows where to find one please
post it on this forum. LarryLarry

Re: carb wrench
John,
If you complete unscrew the fitting, you might consider putting some EZ Turn http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...ezturnlube.php or Loctite 545 or equivalent used for fuel lines.
EZ Turn can be found at local aircraft supply parts houses and used to be known as "fuel lube". Fuel lube was a tip from one of my friends with private planes.

Re: carb wrench
A wrench designed for the aluminum Powerglide modulator is thin and works for the Holley inlet fittings. I bought mine from Snap-On in the 60's so I don't know if they're still available.- Top

Re: carb wrench
This is one of those wrenches you don't use often, not hard to make. The one thing you don't want to do is tighten up the fuel line without holding the carburetor fitting.- Top

Re: carb wrench
Thank you everyone, very much, for your insight on the tightening of the fuel line inlet fittings. I had someone from the Corvette Forum tell me that in the 60's Mac tool made a special wrench to work on tri-power set-ups without taking the carbs off the engine. I followed that up and found that Mac tool did indeed make a wrench called a 1-inch rochester carburetor thin 4-way angled wrench #S141. I called the company and they still had 57 in stock. Thanks again for all your help! John- Top
