1960 Arm rest problem

I bought two new arm rests for my 1960 from Romeo Engineering and the screw holes in the arm rest do no line up with the holes in my door. The two screws in the forward portion line up ok with the nuts in the door but the rear screw that is supposed to go in the metal access plate is at least one inch too high. Did I by junk or is something else going on? The metal access plates are new from CC.

Steve, if you have the old arm rests and they bolt up, my next step would be to call Romeo engineering. I have seen some Chinese crap made today and poor quality control over there.

Edward, the car came without any armrests so I have nothing to compare to.

I would next take a measurement from center to center on the door plate and then the arm rest It should give you a rough idea just how far off everything is.

The rear screw on the armrest hits the access plate about an 1" or more high. I just don't know if that is a poor design on the armrest or if something on my door is off. Both doors are the same so it seems to be an armrest problem. Has anybody out there had any experience with the parts from Romeo Engineering? The armrest look very good and appear to be correct in every way (I'm no expert) so I am puzzled as to why they don't fit.

Is it possible they shipped you a 58 version.....isn't the 58 similar to the 59-61?

I don't know if they are different or not. I need to call Romeo and see if they have any ideas.

How about questioning the accuracy of the metal access plates, NEW from CC?

When I restored my 1960, the old arm rest were in a box of parts but really not usable and the door panels and inner door metal access panels were missing, so I did the same and bought new access panels and new Al Knoch door panels and arm rests. I recall having a similar problem. The reproduction arm rest molded plastic structure was not as crisp and precise as the originals. I had to modify them a little to get the screw holes to line up. Push the mounting screws through one of the are rest, the two at the front and the one at the rear and look at the angles. You may just need to modify the angle of the inside front screw to get the rear to shift down so that you can get the back screw in.

I bought my metal access panels from Paragon, but I suspect they are all may by either Paragon, Corvette Central, or one of the other vendors. So, I think you access panel should be OK and that it is just how the arm rest is molded.
