    Large starter lug 70 corvette

I was looking in the AIM and was reviewing the starter connections.

The AIM does not show a 5/8" bolt against the starter solenoid and a 5/8" bolt to hold the + cable in place.

Should there be two bolts or one? The AIM Sheet A11 shows a ground/lock washer against the solenoid housing, + battery cable, harness cable, and then the bolt.

I looked at some pics and it seemed all the starters had the two bolt assembly. bolt, washer, + bat. cable, harness cable, bolt.

I did see I need to caulk in a couple place based on another thread.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Geeze I hope everyone ignored this question.

Apparently I asked the last time I was working on the starter.

Bill, the solenoid has a nut to hold the copper stud and housing together, then cable, lock washer, and another nut. The nuts where thin. There was caulking used at the solenoid housing to body, and the area around the noise to shield.

Were both nuts the same or different thicknesses? The nut that attaches the headlight door ajar switches is the same part number as the nut called out in the AIM for the positive battery cable to starter nut. Pretty creative use for the same nut I must say.

I had John Pirkle restore the starter and I suspect the nut is too thick since the metal index on the cable does not quite get to the notch in the solenoid cover.

I had some 3M black strip caulk so that part is covered.

        Thanks, Bill
