Re: 66 fuel line: pump to carb

I checked with one of the '66 team judges, our Texas Chapter Judging Chairman, and the '66 National Team Leader.

One photograph the Texas Chapter Judging Chairman has of a bowtie '66 327/300 shows a chrome line.

Here is the National Team Leaders response:

    Guys/Gals,
There are not a lot of Bow Tie original 66 300HP examples to look at , BUT in the examples we have seen and feel confident in their originality, they had chrome fuel lines from pump to carb.

Michael - The1966 Corvette AIM indicates a revision indicating a change of the fuel pump & fuel line on the Base Motor during the Production year as does the 1966 Corvette TIM&JG. So, my question is, did the earlier version of the 66 Base Motor fuel line with the "screwed together" fuel pump use/have a chrome plated fuel line & the later version with the "crimped together" fuel pump use/have a plain steel fuel line??????? Can we draw the conclusion based on the limited information we have that since the "crimped together" fuel pump & fuel line for the 1967 Corvette Base Motor that we know used the plain steel fuel line & that the same part number fuel line used on the 1966 Corvette with the "crimped together" fuel pump is/was the same as the 1967 fuel line????????? I'm also curious to know if the 1967 Base Motor fuel line part number as listed in the 67 AIM was a Production only part number since it does not appear to ne listed in the Parts & Accessories Catalogs?????????? Is there some other information on the 1967 Base Motor fuel line?????????????Pete

I'm still a little confused also. The only thing we have carved in stone so far is the fact that Tim Barbieri has the original un-plated fuel line from his 67 300 HP and a friend also has an un-plated fuel line from his 300 HP Sept 65 built 66.

That would be the 3892693 un-plated line that goes with the 6440433 crimped pump.

It looks like the 6440433 crimped pump and 3892693 fuel line were to be used together as they were both replaced at the very same time in production by the 3882838 fuel line and 5594657 screw together fuel pump.

As mentioned, according to the AIM the changed occurred in spring of 1966 so, does that mean that prior to that time the crimped pump and un-plated fuel line were used from start of production? Quite possible.

The changes in the box at the bottom of the AIM page list the changes as March 66 but the numbers in the box that are associated with the change are #8 and #9. That tells us that the page we are seeing is not the original page because the original page would have shown changes #1 through #7.

I'm reasonably sure the crimped fuel pump and un-plated lines were used at least at some point in 66 production but we may never know exactly when.

I know crimped style pumps were used for other car lines from start of production 66.

I would be curious to see what a 66 passenger car AIM shows for the 300 HP fuel line. It has basically same Holley carburetor.

Michael - The AC 40433 "crimped" style fuel pump was used on some of the small block 67 Chevelles (don't know about the 66 Chevelles) so I'll check on the Chevelle AIMs. Pete

Re: 66 fuel line: pump to carb

The 1966 Chevrolet AIM lists 3 different carbs that were used on the L30 327 engine option and are as follows:

7026203 Roch. 4bbl carb with 3892606 fuel line (pump to carb)
3826749* Carter 4bbl carb with 3896965 fuel line (*misprint???, 1966 Chev. Parts Catalog lists 3876749, Carter AVS 4027S)
3876747 Holley 4bbl carb with 3892602 fuel line

The fuel pump listed for the L30 engine is the same one that was used with the L35 396 engine, GM # 6440193.

Re: 66 fuel line: pump to carb

I don't want to add to the confusion but FWIW, the outlet on both style fuel pumps look exactly the same to me meaning the same fuel line would work on both pumps and I would think for the 300hp engine it would not be chrome.
