    Primary Ignition Lead Routing Corrrect?

My memory has failed me during re-assembly of my distributor.

Is my routing for the primary lead connecting to the Uniset correct? I don't recall exactly where the lead rose above the breaker plate, and it needs to be in a location that will prevent it from rubbing as the vacuum advance rod and breaker plate move back and forth.

If the area that I have it in is not correct, what is? I've searched for photos and haven't found what I need. If any of you have a photo that shows where the lead rises above that plate, it would be ideal.

    Thanks,
    Larry

Larry it looks as though you have you correct routing, What I do is take a vacuum pump and fully open the vacuum advance to make sure the wire is clear of the plate, The lead can be extended or re-tracked by removing the groment at the base of dist.

      Ed,

Thanks, yes, I've used vacuum to actuate the advance back and forth to look for any binding issues, and moved the lead a bit in the grommet for what I thought was best access.

The illustration in the Chassis Service Manual was indistinct enough that I couldn't tell exactly where the lead should be positioned, and I tried it in several different locations, all of which seemed to be workable, but I have a feeling that the GM engineers must have decided on a specific location for best results, and I don't want to try to second-guess them.

        Larry,
The location for that hole for the grommet for the ground wire was determined before Unisets existed. I recall seeing an entry in Chevrolet Service News about the Unisets and their fitment, but not having a early C3 with points I didn't pay much attention to it. If that CSN entry is not in the back of the 1968-69 TIM&J, it will be a while before I can get to it. My storage area (where the 1970-72 CSNs are) is iced in and while that makes an excellent security system it is at the expense of my access as well.
