    1967 frame paint

I'm doing a frame off restoration and am ready to paint the frame. Need advice on what product to use. Is there a judging point deduct for painting black semi-gloss frame paint instead of the semi-gloss black asphaltic material used by the factory?

Not sure I've seen frames painted with a asphaltic type paint however what you'll see is most frames painted anywhere from a satin black to semi gloss. I used more of a chassis black which is somewhere around satin or less. Control arms (on a '66) are a different shade of black, in and around a semi-gloss/gloss. The '67 judging manual would give you the most up to date info.

I shot my 67 with Summit Chassis Shield Satin this fall. I's a 2 part urethane and has very high solids in the paint (which is what you want). Real happy it the gloss level.
I'm not worried about the deduct. But if I was, I'd still shoot urethane on and then the asphalt over that.
BTW, I saw a frame done with Por15 the other day, it looked terrible.

Like the use of the picker as a 'paint stand' to shoot your frame Bill.

Thank Michael, I use it to pull bodies too.

back in 85 when I did the frame during first frame off of my 67 I used factory paint from GM, still looking decent after all these years, of course don't drive the car much.
