Re: 63 brake master cylinder need some education

    Thank you John and Harry.

I think what I am trying to learn is where I want to put my money in the restoration of the car. On another forum a guy emailed me and wanted $750 for an original. I about fell out of my chair. My car is not a 150k SWC top flight but I would like correct looking parts on the car. Sounds like the $175 replacement without date is the way to go for now.

I've asked to participate in my local chapter judging in April. I'm hoping to get a baseline for where my car stands and this should help a bunch in understanding where to put the money for improvements.

Most importantly, I love the car and feel very fortunate just to have the privilege to own and drive it in any condition!!!!!

John, it would be an honor to meet you someday. Are you going to attend the KC National this year? I plan to get there with my car without fail. (it will never get any closer with me being in Edmond, OK)

    Best

    Don

      Hello Don

You've got a very nice 63 Roadster. I also have one, but with the 327/300HP engine, Sebring Silver with red interior. Mine was also built in May 1963. Enjoy it.

It took me several years to find one but they can be obtained for about $200.00. If it's a core have it media blasted and put in a SS sleeve (about $95.00) Paint it yourself and put a new kit in the sleeve yourself (about $35.00) and your all set to install it.

          Good Luck

If I remember correctly, the same manual brake master cylinder was used on some 1963 Corvairs. Same part number, same date code layout, etc. Check out the Corvair guys and see what they have.
