    NCRS Florida Winter Meet Costs?

Hi. I will attend the show in Kissimmee in 2 weeks. I guess I have some confusion about the Registration fees, etc.

I will be attending with my fiance, just to look around, and enjoy the many cars, and the swap meet as well. Also looking forward to meeting many of the NCRS members.

I will most likely not be driving up one of my Vets from Boca Raton, and am wondering what is the Registration fee just to walk around the show, as well as the swap meet? It looks like it is $70 + 15 = $85 total. Is this the same cost $70 + 15 as it would be if I drove up a car and had it judged? I know that the fee increases by $20 starting tomorrow.

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

Re: NCRS Florida Winter Meet Costs?

    Steve,

So many people wonder the same thing you're asking, so I'm going to describe something that's sometimes talked about but never really detailed......Sorry if it's "Too-Much-Information" as I tend to ramble on, especially in the early mornings like now with my coffee in hand.

So......If you were to get a car judged the entry fee is $75 in addition to the $70 Participant fee for you and a family member(you + spouse + children). IMO, a fiance is definitely a family member. If attending, not a absolute requirement, the banquet is $56 each, so it would be $75+$70+(2x$56)=$257. IMO if getting a car judged it's a fun time to go to that. You need pre-registration for that because of catering scheduling.

The $70 Participant Fee($now $95 at event as the 1/7/14 deadline is past) entitles you to be a Judge to help with the event, and to attend the Judging School activities. There are sessions requiring pre-registration, and if space is open you could attend those. You're also entitled to be an Observer Judge either day, and this is done by asking the category Team Leader before Judging begins Fri or Sat morning. BTW, the Registration tent is usually in the parking lot at the Comfort Suites by Thursday AM.

The participant fee also gets you proper entry to the Thursday evening "Reception" gathering at the Comfort Suites Hotel poolside. It's a place for members to meet up and re-acquaint, talk about cars, eat some complimentary shrimp and chicken wings, etc. Some(not all) members have a slight thirst for beer, wine, and other adult alchoholic beverages and those can be purchased separately at the poolside bar. If you do attend this, I'd recommend that you don't stand too close to the pool as the evening progresses.

So....now, in your case, if you and your other half are just planning to casually come for the day Friday or Saturday, look around at the cars, walk around the swap meet and car coral, and meet up with some folks, and just come to have a good time...........then there is no absolute requirement to register, however it's personal preference for some to toss in the fee as a way of supporting the organization and help offset costs even though they're not getting the full benefits, etc. Some years due to work, etc my wife and I go for the day(I'm 1 1/2 hrs away) to just walk around for a few hours and I don't register. Some years, like this year, I go full tilt and spend a fortune, full fee with banquet etc, and going for the week with a buddy who's getting his car judged. My wife is staying home so it "Guys-All-Out" this year for me!!! I promise to behave though.

The fenced in show field entry points are not typically staffed with guards and many non-members do the same thing and are not required to pay a fee just to walk around. You just wouldn't be able to attend the seminars or be a Judge or OJ, etc, etc. BTW Thursday is car entry day and Wed/Thurs is swap meet setup day. Saturday is by far the busiest day with 1000's of people walking around.

Hope to see you there! I'll be there with a buddy(Chuck McSheehy) getting his black/red '65 fuelie convertible judged. Stop by for a hello.

    Rich

      Steve,

Rich has given you some sage advice. If you do decided to register at the meet, just tell the registration folks that your fiance is your "significant other" and she will be included in the "family registration" fee.

Walk around look at the cars, introduce yourself to the guys doing the Judging on the year model(s) your interesting in after they've completed their car judging.

If you've never had a car Judged before then I would recommend you do three things before having a car Judged at a Regional event:
      1) buy, read and practice Judging your car with the Technical Information Judging Manual for your car - NCRS tent at the Florida Regional will have Judging Manuals available to purchase
      2) be an Observer Judge for your car year - Florida Regional would be a good event for you to do that. Be prepared to spend the majority of the day as there's usually 8 cars to judge
      3) have your car Judged at a Chapter meet before doing Regional Judging

        Steven,
Just remember that the Florida Chapter has one thing in mind! That is you and your family enjoying your trip to the Annual Florida NCRS Regional Meet! The members are all over the place and are eager to answer any questions you might have or direct you to the various seminars. Please do attend the Reception at the Comfort Suites Thursday Evening. You'll meet a lot of nice people that are working hard for your enjoyment! If you ever attend once, you'll be hooked and never miss it again!

Joe You're so right about the Reception gathering. I got "hooked" about 4 years ago and is a highlight of the event and I always look forward to it.

The cost of going is reasonable in my opinion, UNTIL you walk thru , look at the cars, get all jacked up about it and then mosey over to the big auction going on. THATS when it can get expensive.
