Cost of Judging at Florida Show??

I'll be down in Florida during the NCRS show in Kissimmee. Maybe I don't understand the registration? But will it cost me $90 to be an Observer judge, get only one point and attend one Judging school? If that's the case, I'll take my chances of not paying anything and just looking.

Rex, register online and it's $70.00, One point for the Judging School on Thursday and two points for being an OJ. There is also Terry's Advanced Judging School which is worth 3 points.

You can't get all your points, max of 7 at a Regional, in schools but I think you could get a total of 5. Two for the OJ and 3 for the school.

Harry, I've been doing the NCRS stuff for 4 yrs and still don't have 100 points. Still can't figure out how to even find how many points I've even got. I've just re-newed for two more years and I'm getting tired of paying for points. This show would mean for 5 points it would cost $14 per point. How many of the young guys coming up are going to sign up for that?

          You have 56 points.

The rule of thumb from many years ago is $10K for a black hat.

It costs a ton of money to run a meet. If all the costs were loaded onto those having their cars judged and those looking to learn or acquire judging points were given a free ride, I don't think there'd be too many cars to judge. Kind of a catch 22. I look at it as money well invested.

Click on your name, click on profile, click on ABOUT ME.... All your history is there..... 56 points!

I figure on average, with hotels, travel, food, drinks, and registration it's about $100.00 per point.

I just re-checked the registration in the last Drive Line and its $70 in advance and $95 at the show. If I find out it's $60 by registering on-line I'll do it. Still think it's too much!

I guess one can put a price on judging recognition points, but it would be much more difficult to put a price on the enjoyment, learning experience, camaraderie, and just plain fun - think MasterCard commercials .

as Hank says, you may be approaching the club from the wrong perspective. Many of us fly to FLA because it is a great meet, and swap meet, for seeing a ton of great cars, and mingling with great vette enthusiasts from all over the country. We get 6 or 7 points for participating in the activities, and we like to gather in the points, but the main emphasis is seeing and learning more about these classic cars we love, and visiting with friends. If the sole purpose was to just collect points, then you are right, they are very expensive points. And to simply accumulate points is kind of pointless. In and of themselves they are meaningless. It is the experience you got collecting them that counts....

going to move this out of the Help forum to the tech board as it more fits there than here.

                      Actually, it's more than that...

                      $90.00 Registration
                      $195.00 Hotel
                      $150.00 Food
                      $89.00 Rental Car
                      $18.00 Fuel
                      $1,723.00 Beer
                      $2,265.00 Total

if you only get one judging point, the math isn't difficult.

                      Being around your friends...priceless!!

Yup it's a lot of money to register. But it's a fun time with fun people. You also get paid entry to the Thursday evening gathering at the host hotel with all of the shrimp and chicken wings you can eat. It's all to help the FL Chapter pay for all of those bills for Security, rental stuff, etc. Just renting that temporary chain link fence must be a ton of money. It must cost a fortune to put this Regional together and I feel it's a good investment to help keep it going for the future.

I consider it a bonus to get a few J-points.

Going to these events is not supposed to be like buying a ticket to go see a movie. How about going there to also see and make friends, spend time talking with owners about their cars and see what you can learn on your own. Perhaps check out the nice swap meet there? Attending these meets has never been only about "buying points".
