    Console Electric 71 BB

    Happy New Year to all!
I have taken the console apart so I can address some issues:
    1. Clock(previous replacement) not working. Also reset not working much either as it slips a lot.
    2. Seat belt warning light stays on / push button not working.
    3. Cigarette lighter not working. I think no juice.

Questions: What should be hot at all times? The door open lights seem to be the only thing. I assume the clock? Maybe my clock works as it does not appear to be getting any juice?
What should be working with the ignition switch on? The only things I see are the door ajar indicator and the headlight on indicator.
What would only work with the engine running? How do I test those items with the engine off?

    Thanks, Ed

Ed, I believe the clock and cigar lighter maybe on the same Circuits its generally orange wires, with the key off or on they should be powered. Are you sure there is not a fuse gone?

Thanks Ed Johnson. Fuse looks good. I checked orange wire to clock and it seems dead. I will check lighter wire tomorrow. I am just using a little circuit tester. maybe my ground is bad too? I am no expert on electric but will try to check out and report back.

Ed that circuit for the lighter and clock also feeds the dome lamps, its possible that if the dome lights are working in the car you have a connection issue somewhere in the circuit. which can be a pain, it maybe possible if you cannot locate the problem is to make a jumper wire and use orange wire from the foot well lights. A ground circuit will not be a problem when your missing power to a circuit. This circuit your working with is one of the bigger circuits it powers up quite a few circuits, try not to over whelm yourself, just start looking for connectors that may have power on one side and not on the other, a small circuit tester will work just fine.

          1) Clock not working. If it's an original or replacement type clock (i.e. "tic-toc" type movement), not working is the normal condition. If you must have a "tic-toc" rather than suffer the (in my opinion unjustly) high judging penalty, then you'll be facing a lot of time with an non-working clock (in my opinion, a working quartz movement clock is WAY better than a non-working "tic-toc").

          2) Seat belt warning light stays on. Normal condition when the reset button/switch fails. Yours has apparently failed.

          3) Cigarette lighter not working. The electrical connector on the cigarette lighter receptacle falls off rather easily. It falls off WITHOUT FAIL if great care is not taken when the console plate is removed and re-installed.
