If any of you recall, back in the spring I commenced rebuilding the original engine in my 62. Unfortunately, the original 461X heads were in bad shape from a prior rebuild and water was hit lightly in both heads. I had them repaired, and they were deemed ready to run, but in the meantime I found a local set of later 462's and the engine was rebuilt using those. The engine is finished waiting a little more tuning on the dyno. My original plan was to run the repaired the original repaired heads. Instead, I would like to find a set of date correct heads if I can. My car is #1243, built around the 10th of October, 1961. My original heads both have the casting date of Sept. 11th. I would like to find something in the mid august to mid September time frame, so if anyone has anything, please let me know. I believe 3 months is the given time for heads to predate assembly, although would that be different given my cars early VIN? Thanks all. Oh, and I will be going to Kissimmee if that helps.Bill Van Orman

Re: Early 62 461X heads and info needed
Bill, Read your post twice. I assume you know that your early '62 engine 461 heads have the top of the camel hump machined off in comparison to the ones on your engine. But you did say you were looking for correctly dated heads so that would solve the issue.
Story: For many long years I had a set of early '62 dated heads stashed away that were all rebuild. When my 63 engine was being rebuilt I decided that I was going to use the '62 heads. Well after carrying the heavy heads down from the 2nd floor I saw that I goofed big time. The camel hump was cut off. Those heads are getting hard to find you know. Good luck, John- Top

Re: Early 62 461X heads and info needed
Bill-I have a head dated I 8 1 which I think is Sept. 8, 1961. I bought this and one dated B 16 2 and never used them. The first head is bare and I think has some cracks on the valve seat area. Send me a PM if you want more information. Bill- Top

Re: Early 62 461X heads and info needed
Thanks for the leads, and help. I called a place called Midwest Cylinder heads and sent them pictures of my heads. They think they can fix them by welding. Have any of you ever dealt with them or with this type of fix before. Oh and sorry I posted the heads wanted in the wrong place.- Top
