I have ordered a new oil pan for my '67 427, with all the proper reinforcements, etc. I am going to paint it, but wanted at ask what type of paint and finish I should have. Last time I painted my valve covers, I used Seymour Hi-Tech engine coating, Chevy Orange of course. The judges marked me down, as the paint looked "too glossy". Was it my technique, should I spray it more "rough" looking, or is it the paint? Thanks for any tips.

Re: Painting a 427 oil pan
I'm not familiar with the paint you mentioned, but your problem is probably a little of both. With the current popular thought that shiny is better, the paint formula was probably 1/2 the problem. Next, I'm guessing you probably finished the application with a wet coat or two. You can probably salvage the valve covers with some light sanding, or better yet stripping the covers and re-shooting with enough light coats to cover completely.Kurt Geis
