    C2 Carpet Heat Barrier Questions

    I've spent the last hour or so reading the archived threads regarding the use of under carpet heat barrier materials in C2 Corvettes. I have yet to see the question asked which is;

    If you use a product such as Koolmat under the front and rear carpets do you also use the original type of under-carpet sound deadner kit?

    I am getting ready to install the carpeting in a 1965 BB convertible and need some advice as to whether this should be done. The car will be flight judged in 2014 and I want to make sure that the carpets look right and everything fits properly.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Jim I did not use it but I have seen friends use it one type is thick about a 1/4 inch or more and they don't use anything on top of it, another type is a 1/8 inch and they use the jute over that or as you call it carpet sound deadener kit, no expert on this but maybe you will get better advise from others.

      Jim.....I've used a heat barrier product in two C-2's, one a BB convertible, the other a SB coupe. The heat barrier product was also used inside the doors of both vehicles, not causing any kind of issues. I then used a typical jute product on top of the heat barrier with minimal fitment issues installing the carpet. Probably shouldn't use any jute thicker than 1/3". The convertble has been NCRS judged twice with no problems.
