    fuel pump 4663

Walked out to the garage to check up on the 58 to smell gas....
tracked down the leak at the 2 weeping holes on the top of the pump so I removed the pump (joy it was smelling like gas)
    my question is...
    The pump I removed is a 4663
    Motor is a 2x4 283
    Build date June 1958
Before I restore the pump I would like to know if its the correct number.??

    Re: fuel pump 4663

    According to judging guide:Early 1958 may have used 1957 type 4346 followed by 4445. 230 HP 1958 engines uses 4663. 1958 late-60 used 4656.

If I read it correctly, you have a 1958 late Corvette with dual carbs, so you need the 4445 fuel pump, if I am not mistaken.

      Re: fuel pump 4663

In my fuel pump research I have the following notes:

Technical Service Bulletin DR #321 (dated Oct. 29, 1957) refers to a noise coming from the fuel pump. The correction is to enlarge the forward vent hole to 1/8" with a punch or drift. It then refers to pump # 5594445 as the old fuel pump and # 5594663 as the new fuel pump for the Corvette.

My 1963 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1962) lists the following in Gr. 3.900:

      56-57 PASS. w/dual 4BC
      56-58 CORVETTE
      57 PASS. w/F.I. .............................(stamped 4445-4656 or 4663)...............5621638

      Chevrolet Parts History:
GM # 5593951 replaced with GM # 5621638 in Sept. 1960 for "over the counter" fuel pumps.

      GM # 5593951 = AC 4346
      GM # 5621638 = AC 4445

          I believe that for 1958, the AC 4663 is a SERVICE-only pump.

What fuel pump part number is listed in the 1958 Corvette AIM? The 1962 Corvette AIM lists 5594656 in Sect. 6, sheet 2.00, as the fuel pump part number.

the AIM shows pump 4656 for 58 but the drawing looks to be a 230 hp. Is the same pump used on both 230 and 245 hp?

                Re: fuel pump 4663

                Kevin,

The angle between the inlet and outlet on a 4663 AC fuel pump is 180 degrees (top photo).
The angle between the inlet and outlet on a 4656 AC fuel pump is 72 degrees (bottom photo).
If you installed a 4656 pump on you 58 Corvette I assume that you would have to modify the "plumbing". Is the "plumbing" on you car original?

Apparently the fuel lines from the fuel pump to the fuel filter were never sold over the counter for the 1958. However, Paragon Corvette lists 4 different reproduction fuel pump to fuel filter fuel lines (5017, 5021-S, 5022-S, and 5065-S).

The answer is SERVICE parts consolidation. The original configuration pump might have been no longer available at the time the pump was replaced.

I see Zip parts sells a rebuilt original 4656 pump for 129.00. Could this be?

A 4656 pump can be rebuilt.

                          Re: fuel pump 4663

this post has been around awhile but I'm not in the middle of replacing my 57 2x4 plumbing to stock (except using SS). I believe I have a 4656 pump with the 72 degree port alignment. However, when I run the new "stock" tubing to the pump the fuel line doesn't match the output port on the pump, and the pump to tank hose isn't long enough to reach the input port. I believe I have the right pump and the correct stock lines (covette central) but they won't work together. In looking at the pump I took the bottom off and found I could rotate it to where the ports would work. However, the new output line is exactly one filling too short. I could bend it to fit but then the line wouldn't be horizontal with the carburetors and have one bend that doesn't match the original shape from Corvette Central.

My question is are there two connections from the output port on the pump to the output fuel line to the carbureator? If anyone has any pictures of their connection I would surely appreciate it.

You can easily convert a 4657 pump to a 4656 pump by carefully removing the 10 screws and rotating the base as shown in the instruction that come with a NOS 4657 pump.

Could you please tell me what is the correct number pump for a '58 FI 250 HP. Thanks very much, John
