67 inside fresh air vents with AC

Hello on dads 67 BB with factory AC the inside fresh air vents on the passenger side the upper hole there is a stud coming from the cowl. is that correct. does a regular nut get used there? also the other holes looks like there was screws holding it on. but there was never screws holes in the cowl. I am know about the kick panel screws on the rear most. but the lower one and one close to the fire wall is in question. same on the drivers side.

I did not take this apart so I have no clue what it was to begin with

Photo below shows a typical A/C firewall after the Body Shop rework to accomodate/install the A/C adapter assembly prior to installation of the A/C evaporator assembly on the engine side.

Yes John the fire wall looks like that. I was talking about the inside plastic vents.

Hi Keith,
The stud that goes through the upper passenger side inside air vent on the air condition cars is correct. It takes a standard 10/24 hex nut and a flat washer. Check the C60 section in the AIM page A5 (G272 in my copy). It's the same for 1965,1966 and 1967. Not sure about the 1963 and 1964 as I don't have the AIM for them. All C60 Corvettes have that special half vent grill on the inside passenger side.

Thanks Page but is it normal for those vents not to be fastened to the inner cowl other then that stud? Like I said on dads car there are no screw holes behind it to screw it fast?

There should also be a flat head cross slotted screw that goes through the lower hole in the vent at the bottom. Will get the correct size and lenght tomorrow.

1965 Air Cond, RH Vent Grill.jpgCorrection on the above post concerning the lower screw. The C60 AIM page A5 (page G272 in my book) has a note below the vent grill picture "Production Screw see UPC 1 sheet E7". Seems lot it's actually E8. There it sends you to Sheet E1. On Sheet E1 the trim screws that hole the small kick panel have one screw that should go through the kick panel, through the hole in the plastic vent grill and into the cowl. A second screw also goes through the edge on the vent grill.
