I am trying locate the PN on my oil pan and can not find it. Should the pan be stamped with the PN? Also, is the LT1 pan the same as the base cars? thanks

Re: 71 LT1 oil pan
No part number stamped on you oil pan, and not on most others either.
In 1971 I believe the oil pan for LT1 (but NOT ZR1) is the same as the base engine, but we should wait for confirmation from others to be sure. Externally it is the same, but who gets to see the internals?Terry- Top

Yes, you could look forever and never find a part number on a C1, C2, or C3 Corvette oil pan. GM didn't start stamping part numbers on them until much later.
For 1971 all Corvette small blocks except those 8 ZR-1's produced used oil pan GM #3820000. This is a "5 quart" oil pan. Some early GM P&A catalogs are incorrect on this as they specify a different oil pan (the "6 quart") for "special high performance" 1971's. What they meant was "special high performance with HD 4-speed trans (i.e. ZR-1)" but, somehow, the "...with HD 4 speed transmission" got left off of the application description. In any case, you can rest assured that the 3820000 was the oil pan used for all 1971 small block except ZR-1.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
