Shroud # 3956109 Extension

The extension that I have on my 1970 (#11437) L46 A/C. Is configured different, than any I've seen. The cut out at the bottom is wider, and at the top of the each side, there is what I'll call an ear . It extends beyond the top by an inch and a inch wide. The extension has no numbers. Are all extensions (part # 3956118) the same.

As far as I know, all GM #3956118 extensions were the same. However, the 3956118 was discontinued in January, 1983 and replaced by the GM #331870. Perhaps you have one of those.

By the way, the GM #3956118 was a "half round" shroud. The replacement GM #331870 was a "full round" shroud (also originally used in PRODUCTION for 1973-75 Corvettes). The "top half" of the 331870 was narrower than the "bottom half" and the "bottom half" was the part that was very similar to the 3956118. The "ears" that you are describing may be the vestige of the "top half" of a 331870 that was cut off.

Also, the 3956118 usually has that part number embossed on the extension.
