    How do you document a 65 /66 Corvette ?

In todays world of fakes & clones how do you document a car that did not come with a tank sticker . I have a 65 that I have traced to the original selling dealer and have copies of all four of the past owners titles. I have talked to all the past owners or their families . I know how the car was delivered . I do not have any paperwork ,warranty books ,window sticker etc . I have taken hundreds of photos during its ongoing restoration but would still like to have correct documentation . Is there any way NCRS can document without a window sticker or warranty book , etc ?

I don't believe so Bill. Unless a prior owner comes forward with doc's, you probably have what you have. I'm in the same boat (as you) with my '66. Other than the shipping report I do have a written bio signed and notarized from the prior owner of 30 years. His friend bought the car in 1972 with him buying it in 1977. Forty one years of history on the car.........that's as good as it will most likely get.

      Bill,

Let me suggest this. Contact the states that the 65 has been titled in and ask for copies of all the information. Some states have information on microfilm and can supply more than just copies of the title. A lot of the time the dealer invoice is included the first time the auto is titled. The dealer may have copies in some of their old record files. It's worth asking.

Joe I have copies of all the titles front and back and a letter from the Mo. dept. of Revenue listing all past owners names & addresses . The selling dealer is long gone .I talked to all past owners except the first (he died in the early 80s). The car has always lived in the St. louis area .

            Bill,

I only have experience with Tennessee and Arkansas Department of Revenue. They retain the items they obtain when the car is first titled. They have no problem sending a copy of that record to the owner if in fact they send proper identification to them along with a copy of the present title.

              Bill,

Suggest you contact the St. Louis Chapter. Someone in the Chapter may have some good knowledge and tips to share about the Missouri vehicle registration documents retention.

Missouri has some very old and interesting vehicle laws.

              Good luck,

              Gary

Bill, proceed as advised by Joe, Gary, & Bill and contact the state which the car was registered in as new. Sometimes the state will have a copy of the "MSO" (Manufacturers Statement of Origin) on file. The MSO will show the engine rated hp which will help you with engine id along with weight and vin #. The MSO might be enough to do a document search thru NCRS (Roy Sinor could advise if MSO will work)

I have tried this in the state of MI for my 66 427roadster that I bought in 73 from a friend who bought it in 71 (he has since past away) we never thought about documentation back then he had none I have none. MI DMV told me that all old info and past owner history is sealed. It is to bad because I have known this car since 71,and it is very original including the Lacquer paint, so I keep looking for Ideas and suggestions

Tony, while I can't speak for MI in Texas we have what is called the "Open Records Act" which allows the public access to any government document (with exception of adoption, juvenile court and a few others) - you draft a letter to the gvt office detailing the documents you want, pay a small fee per page and within several days receive the papers. This of course does not work if the papers are lost or destroyed. Google "Open Records" for MI and see what you get

Tony - try this What Types of Records Can Be Requested You can inspect all "public records" of the government bodies subject to the Michigan FOIA. The term "public record" refers to any "writing prepared, owned, used, in the possession of, or retained by a public body in the performance of an official function, from the time it is created," including computerized data, but not including software.

Please keep us informed. My car came from Michigan, also, but I am at a dead end as well.
