    1970 seat belts

    hi,

recently i ordered a pair of repro lap seat belts for my 70 and noticed that
the repro belts were shorter than the ones i have in the vette.

the lap belt in the car is about 51" long (webbing only) and the received belt about 36" (webbing only).
i can only buckle in with the seat in its most rearward position.

what length should the lap belts have?

i believe the belts i have are original 1970 ones.

    thanks

      Wolf,
It appears you may have been sent a '71 model belt. I measured my 1971 belts and they are very close to your 36" length reproduction belt.

My original 70 lap belts (outboard/male end) are approx. 36" in length. Do you have the correct female end (inboard/encased in plastic)?

          i believe i do.
          it's dated 52b69 and is about 7 3/4" (20cm) long.
how long is your inboard encased one?
just had a look at your attached photo. your inboard sleeve doesn't seem to look like mine.
          i'll have to check again.
          thanks

            Hi Mike,

One of these days maybe we can park our 70s side by side as mine is L46 Classic White too

FYI- The retractors on the shoulder harnesses do not appear to be correct. Is there some kind of cover over the retractors?

They should be metal with white plastic caps inboard and outboard.

That is what I have on my original and dated shoulder harness belts on my 70 Convertible. Belt Date is B 70.

            Bill

The pic I posted was found on the internet. I posted it to show Wolf an example of inner/outer lap belts. Not sure why his lap belt is 51" long or why a 36" (which seems to be correct) won't attach with the seats forward?

Where are you located Bill? I'm in Pittsburgh for now, most likely Dallas in a year or two (US/AA merger).

                Re: 1970 seat belts

                hi
i unearthed some photos of my inboard belt. it's black, not blue as it should be, but with a correct date. once the blue sleeve on,
one cannot see if it's black or blue.

they seem shorter than the ones in your pictures. if my seats are in a forward position it's nearly impossible to buckle the outboard lap belt in the inboard one as the female buckle would be positioned at or behind the seatback. this situation would be the same even if the out board lap belt was 36" or 51" long!

so what would be the correct webbing length for the inboard belt?

well, it seems that bubba has also been around this part of the vette.

                here are the pictures
                7 3/4"

The inboard belt on my 1972 has 5 1/2 inches webbing and an overall length of 9".

I am in Damascus, MD. That is not too far from Pittsburgh.
