1965 nonpower 4 wheel disk brake master cylinder ? bench bleed?

Hello folks, purchased correct replacement master cylinder for my 1965 roadster from Ecklers. Note with the part says not to bench bleed-only vacuum.

I do have the MityVac hand held bleeder with accessories. Just wondering how to bleed this cylinder. Afraid the Eckler's tech info email didn't make things clear.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't know where they came up with that advise. Bench bleeding a new M/S prior to installation is pretty much SOP whenever one is installed. If you don't bench bleed it to fill the cylinder with fluid, it's nearly impossible to bleed the brakes properly once it's installed.

Is it possible to install the M/C, fill with fluid then use the mighty vac to pull a vacuum through the brake line seat/fitting sucking fluid into the little cup that comes with the mighty vac. When fluid runs into the cup the air should be out of the M/C.

The note with the part spoke of damage to seals. Maybe some have strongarmed the piston enough to damage it. Made little sense to me.

My thought also. Could that not be done when on the car? Maybe need a second person to depress the pedal?

            John,

I could be wrong but I believe it could be installed and filled then bled like I described above, no need to depress the pedal as the vacuum should do the work.

Make sure to check the pedal free play adjustment because you never know what piston is used in the rebuild and the brake pedal rod may seat in the piston in or out further.

There is no need to bench bleed a single circuit master cylinder. Simply install it, fill it and bleed the brakes at the wheels.

I have bled my '65 master cylinder many times just by installing fluid and doing progressive sequence of bleeding the calipers. Does require two people.

Nobody has asked or mentioned - manual or power brake cylinder?
