      Rich, Are those the same door panels that are on sale for $989 in The Al Knoch Ad on page 60 of the November-December Drive Line? Has any body else used these door panels recently and had better results that Rich?

          Roger, Any of the C1 panels, in particular a '59, a '60, and a '61 I've installed over the last few years have had this anomaly. My bet is that many others have had the same issue and dealt with it as I have.

          Whether it's the base panel, or deluxe panel, they all inherently have the same panel width. You may heave to peel the vinyl back from the rear edge and bend the end of the upper metal inwards a 1/8" to 3/16" to reduce the overall width of the panel to keep it from hitting the B-Pillar and/or hitting the forward dash too hard.

          The other issue to be aware of is that the curvature of the upper metal where it meets the inner reveal trim will need some adjustment as well. Carefully bend the upper metal to conform to the natural curve of the inner door curvature. This is a "trial-and-error" test fit operation. The panels metals are dead straight, but the doors are not. If you don't do the adjustment, you'll see a gap there and the screws holding the inner reveal will be in your view every time you open the door.

              How many end shims are normally used? Some weatherstrip kits included as many as six shims.
              Are you trying to raise the windshield side post to the same thickness of the windshield frame strip?

                The seal is used to seal the bottom of the post to the hinge pillar extension as a water seal, and typically 2. You can add pieces of seals to the front or rear of the post to slightly tilt it to help align to the door post. You want apx 3/16" gap at the w/s post to door post. Note it may be much more at the lower curved area of the posts.

                The bottom of the w/s post, without seals, should be even with the lower frame body channeled seal.

                    I took a look at my '59 original and the seal butts up to the post perfectly on both sides, exactly the same. No gap. No overlap.

                      Tom, Are you referring to the lower channel seal or the post bottom seal?

                      If so, yes, the channel seal should butt up against the post by design. We've been talking about the post bottom seal.(3rd pic)

                          I see you use a NAPA product to seal the glass into the weatherstrip, do you use the same for the windshield frame assembly?

                            Richard and others - This type of 'T' bolt with a special washer type of part came off of my 62, s/n 9372 when I took the windshield assembly apart. Is this the proper set up for securing the windshield frame to the body or has someone invented a new 'solution'? Only the bare 'T' bolt is listed in the catalogs unless I am missing the add on.

                              I only use it at the glass to rubber. I use no sealer for the rubber to frame as it has multiple ribs to seal it in the channels and the posts. Some folks do but I feel it's not needed the way these cars are driven. If you're going to use it as a daily driver and long road trips across country, then it may be advisable. Sealer there makes a horrible mess if you have a "do-over" to readjust something.

                              I've seen a few of those before on frames that had their glass replaced. IMO they're not original. Sometimes the oval holes in the lower frame channel can get widened from spinning T-bolts, so they may have used those to lock them in better, but a problem is, if it's too high above the channel, it's dangerously close to the glass edge.

                              If my T-bolts spin in the channel slots, I cut 5/16" OD fuel line tubing(apx 1/4" ID) to apx 3/16" long and drive them down on the T-bolt, squeeze them in a vice to square them off, then on the grinder to flatten them a bit to size it tighter in the slot. Locks 'em in good. Keep in mind that the inner 6 channel slot positions are installed in a different orientation(90* out) from the outer slots, so "squeeze & grind" wisely.

                              I'll add this info to the Assy procedure. I have some other suggestions from other folks I need to add too.
