I am wrapping up getting my firewall ignition wiring, hood release cross cable, and wiper reservoir tubing tucked away and secured. I have some questions related to the proper layout and fastening of these items such as the TI ignition harness and hood release cross cable for a 1965 Corvette equipped with a 396 engine. I am studying the '65 AIM and the current '65 judging manual. In the AIM, K66 section, page E297 and the canceled L78 page E317 that shows how the TI ignition wiring harness is to be taped back to the engine wiring harness which I think I have figured out except for the excess TI lead wiring (see earlier post). In the current 1965 NCRS Judging Manual it states that there are to be four (4) black plastic "T" shaped wire tie straps used at the firewall, two on the left side and two on the right side which secure the engine and TI ignition wiring looms to the hood release cross cable. In the '65 AIM on page E199 which is a non TI engine harness it shows there are only three (3) plastic tie straps used. On page E297 in the K66 section showing the 396 (L78) engine wiring and also shows only two (2) plastic tie straps. On page E317 showing the canceled L78 K66 wiring information it again only shows two (2) plastic tie straps.
I know that sometimes the judging manual is not always 100% correct. I have pictures of several 1965 396 equipped Duntov and Bowties cars I've taken pictures of on the judging field and on all of them I constantly see only two (2) black tie straps, one on each side of the firewall that holds the wiring looms to the hood release cross cable. So do I follow the judging manual or do I follow the AIM?
Also does the wiper fluid reservoir hose get routed along the top and around behind the left side hood catch and get tied together with the engine wiring harness and hood release cross cable?
Per page E187 of the AIM the hood release cross cable is attached or placed in the three (3) metal clips attached at the firewall on the inner left and right sides and under the cowl in the center. From what I can tell the hood release cross cable is not placed in the left and right outer most metal firewall clips, only the engine harness is placed in the outer most firewall metal clips and the 396 TI harness is placed in the right outer most metal firewall clip. Is this correct?
Based on responses that I get I will complete the firewall wiring layout and post pictures for you to judge and comment on.
Note: The clear plastic wire T strap are what was found on the car when it was disassemble. I know the judging manual references black but these were on the car when it was purchased from the second owner in 2003.
Thanks in advance.
