    Fuse Question 1959

    Hello.

Second post here, my first post was concerning problems with a cold start/choke carburertor issues. The responses were invaluable.

Anyway. My next question is concerning the fuse. I was driving and a felt something drop from under the console, to my surprise, it was the fuse that fell out of the fuse block. Anyone else have this issue? Do I simply replace the fuse or do I have replace the fuse block? If the fuse falls out that easily....is it the block or the fuse?

    Thanks

    Ethan

Hopefully it just the fuse and goes back in fine. The block is wired to the wiring harness and would not be easy to replace.

maybe the fuse wasn't pushed all the way in to begin with. Plug the fuse back in and try to put up with your fingers to see how much resistance it takes.

That must be one of those reproduction fuses with the C4 explosive charge so when it blows, it instantly identifies itself by shooting itself out of the fuse box and hits you in the leg and drops on the floor................sorry, couldn't resist.

Really, I never ever saw that happen before. I agree with the guys, it was probably just loose from not being pushed in all the way.

If you have not looked at the fuse block, the fuse may not of came out of the fuse block.

In '59 fuse holding terminals (steel) were heat treated after forming and then copper flashed and silver plated. If the terminal retains it's tension and the plating is good, then look at the phenolic block for deterioration, otherwise replace terminal and block as needed, SOLDER the wire connection to the fuse terminal.

thank you for the responses. It was easily plugged back in, hopefully it wont fall out again. My soldering skills are not existent, so hopefully i wont have to replace the fuse block anytime

Try something simple if the fuse fit's in very sloppy, unhook battery and see if you can crimp fuse holder enough (needle nose maybe) to secure fuse.

Be Careful, the original fuse terminals were heat-treated steel, copper plated and then silver plated over the copper. They do NOT take kindly to a forced reshaping.
