The wiper door linkage has a spring mounted on a cylinder that the main rod passes through. There is gap machined in the cylinder and a stop welded on the rod, that looks like it will let the cylinder rotate about 35 degrees on the rod before it hits the stop.
I picked up a mechanism to replace the one in my car, which seems to be in good shape, but the cylinder doesn't want to move. Not sure if it is seized on the bar, or if there is just a lot of tension in the spring which makes it hard to move. It looks like there is a plastic bushing in the cylinder, and I squirted some silicon down in it, but this didn't help. Any suggestions on freeing this up?
And what exactly is the function of the spring?
