Looking for comments on a 65 coupe headliner. The current 65 tech manual states that the headliner is a cross hatched patterned rigid fiberboard. The 63 and 64 tech manual state the same. The 66 tech manual however changes and states that headliners are constructed of soft padded vinyl with a smooth grain. I recently acquired an original low miles 65 coupe that appears to have a totally original unmolested interior. I noted that the headliner is soft vinyl with smooth grain as would be found in a 66. This is a mid April 65 car. I would appreciate any opinions as to whether this headliner is original or possibly was replaced.

Re: 65 Coupe Headliner
Leo,
I have a 80% un-restored July built '65 coupe, VIN 22,0XX with the original rigid, cross-hatched pattern headliner board in it. The car has been in my family since the mid 70's and currently has 56,xxx miles on it. I would say that your headliner was replaced.
Best Regards,

Re: 65 Coupe Headliner
my 65 396 coupe, vin 18xxx has a cardboard headliner as opposed to the 66-7 vinyl/foam/cardboard headliner(which are notorious for the vinyl seperating from the foam). our 66 coupe is on its 3rd headliner, the original and a pair of repos. mike- Top
