    250 Horsepower Fuelies

Were there ever any break downs of how many 250 Horsepower Fuelies were powerglides and how many were standard shifts?

    Walter -

That powertrain (250hp F.I. with Powerglide) was only available in '57-'58-'59.

In '57, there were 182 manuals and 102 with Powerglide.

In '58, there were 400 with manuals and 104 with Powerglide.

In '59, there were 141 with manuals and 34 with Powerglide.

In '60, only the manual version was available - 100 were built.

That is why I needed to know the break down. Now the puzzle gets crazy. WHY would some one pay the same $484.00 for less motor with a standard shift??????. I could understand the powerglide issue. You cant drive a stick shift or you dont want to be shifting all the tiome. But why would you but a standard shift with less of a motor at the same price? Whats the logic? $484.00 was a lot of money back in the mid 1950s. Wouldnt the 2X4 carburetors been the better way to go for 5 less horsepower?

Fuel Injection was marketed based on its advantages in terms of driveability, throttle response, performance, and fuel economy; customers who prioritized those items stepped up to the plate for fuel injection. Those who didn't, went for carburetors. Same logic prevailed for any option - different strokes for different folks.
