    1966 Fuel Filler Door Flags

I am in the twilight zone regarding fuel filler doors for a 66. White or black square? I have a mid 13,000 VIN with what I thought was an original door (white square). The colors of the fuel filler door have faded and my wife asked me what I would like for Christmas. I thought I would give her the info fro a replacement door if she desired to get one for me. I looked up vendors and found two different doors. Opinions seems to differ vendor to vendor, Noland Adams book with NCRS ect. ect. (at least as far as the information I was thus far able to gleen thru web searches).

Could a NCRS offical or some one with a 1966 NCRS judging manual tell me what NCRS would consider the proper color of the upper left hand corner square, of the Victors flag, on a 1966 fuel filler door for my VIN should be?

I am a new member Michael Mitchell (59256). The offical NCRS view would be much appreciated as I have yet recieved my 1966 NCRS manual (it's another Christmas present, which I am not suppose to know about).

Additionally, would anyone have a suggestion as to a vendor which would provide a correct replacement door?

    Michael,

Regarding your very last question, I'm not sure there is any repro '66 door that will pass judging with zero deducts. If one looks on e-bay, one can eventually find an NOS example. I'm sure someone on the DB can advise about the repro doors and judging based on recent experience.

        Michael,

There are at least 3 NOS '66 fuel doors on e-bay right now. Several are listed for $250, but accept offers. I've seen them for less. Repro '66 lids go for about $90.

PS: I have no connection with any of those e-bay auctions.

Thank you for your response. I did have one follow up question. You stated that, according to the NCRS manual, my car could of had either a white or black square.
Would that be irregardless of my mid 13000 vin number? I have had input which claims white or black is thought to be dependent on vin sequences (prior too, after and between certain vin numbers ect.). So, if I find a decent NOS fuel door, do you believe, according to the NCRS manuals, I need to be concerned with the color of the square at all? I appreciate your interest and again thank you for your time.

Thanks for you response. I appreciate input on sources for original equipment as well as input on what may or may not be acceptable repro replacement.

not meaning to hijack this thread......has anyone seen a decal on the underside of a 66 fuel door from a non factory application, possibly service part? A red decal about don't drag the hose across the decklid?

                Michael,

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. According to the JG, your car (based on the vin you gave) could have either color in the corner. So, if you see a good NOS one, go for it.

                Good luck in the hunt.
