    tips for starting a 283 250 HP engine that hasn't run in 6 months

    because of medical reasons I haven`t been able to start my engine equipped with a 4800 FI unit. engine is stock with a 906 distributor.

    should i squirt some starting fluid in the air meter, just keep crannkng until it starts or????

    If that were mine, I'd want some fuel in the bowl before doing any cranking. That way the high pressure pump seal will be wet which minimizes wear on both it and the pump shaft.

    A simple way to fill the bowl would be to remove the pump drive cable and crank the engine for, oh, 20 seconds or so. Then, before you re-install the drive cable, use it to rotate the pump by hand for a few revolutions.

    After that, install the cable and crank until the engine starts. It will take longer than normal to fire, but that's not a big deal.
