    Driveline - Corvette buying experience

I'm interested in experiences with Corvettes offered for sale in the Driveline by other NCRS members. Since I live in Germany Driveline would be my first choice when thinking about buying a Corvette from a private party in the U.S. assuming that there is more trust and honesty among NCRS fellows.
But nevertheless, is there a difference with respect to the description vs. reality of the cars compared to classifieds in other publications, i.e. is there less disappointment when inspecting a car?
Furthermore, I' ve got the impression that prices are higher compared to e.g. Craigslist or local classifieds.
I would greatly appreciate your opinions or experiences.

Oliver Buying a classic car from any source is a risk if you personally can not inspect the car. Just because someone belongs to a great organization does not mean they won't sell you a lemon. As to your concern about description versus reality, again it boils done to the person. Have someone you know look at the car or at least someone who is a qualified appraiser, there are several members who can do this for you. As to the higher prices I would say that as a rule members of this club keep their cars in better shape then the average person, thus the higher prices. Don't be afraid to ask about a car on this forum. As with any big purchase research is the key. Good Luck with your purchase.Terry

One thing you can do is if you find a car you are interested in, you could ask if an NCRS member in the area could look at the car for you. There is still no guarantee, but it may be helpful to have a disinterested party look at it.

I've found that referrals to current or former NCRS judges to be a good source for qualified inspections. I'm not sure if they have a code of conduct or written rules that prevents them from doing this, but in the only case I am aware of it was a retired NCRS judge doing a favor for the widow of one of our members.

I agree with everything posted above. From my experience you do really need to have a prospective purchase looked at if you can't inspect it yourself. I recently looked at a car that was in the Driveline, and obviously owned by an NCRS member. However, from talking to the owner prior to the inspection, my expectations were much greater than the reality of the car when I inspected it. Not that the owner was dishonest, but what he considered mint was different than my opinion of what mint condition is.
