69 Heater Core Observation For Joe Lucia

    Hi Joe,
A little while back I posted looking for a quality heater core for my 69. You graciously wrote me about Rock-Auto offering an aluminum heater core unit made by Cooling Depot. You were 100% correct that is exactly how it is advertised. After I placed the order I went to the Cooling Depot website and after some digging found a little note that says that not all the offered cores are aluminum and that you may get the traditional type instead. Well, unfortunately, the 69 Corvette heater cores are not made in aluminum after all. It is really false or misleading advertising but I just wanted to pass on to everyone who may have read that aluminum heater cores were available now is incorrect due to incorrect advertising.
Joe, thank you so much for your incredible willingness to share your amazing amount of parts knowledge with the rest of us. You have been a tremendous help to me and I truly appreciate all your help!
    Merry Christmas,
    Brad

I am aware of the same note you found and I was a little worried myself. However, the heater core I received for my 69 definitely is an aluminum core. Absolutely no doubt about it. I pictured it in one of my posts.

      Hi Joe,
The one I got was not aluminum. I suppose the note gives them the latitude to send whatever they have. I may try contacting the company to see if I might be able to get one that is aluminum. I'm glad to know the one you received was aluminum as that at least means they can get them somehow. I hope I didn't come across as complaining because you are such a huge help to everyone. I was just relating my experience with this company.
      As always - Thanks!

        Joe,
One more question. On the 69 427/390 car with the header tank, is it permissible to plug each heater hose at the heater core or would the hoses need to be joined to complete the circuit so to speak. I am considering bypassing this leaking core for a while since I don't drive the car in the winter anyway. I was thinking about stuffing a hose plug into the heater hoses just prior to the core and then reconnecting the hoses to the heater core. If this would not hurt the engine, it would appear that all is connected and operating.
        Thanks Joe,
        Brad

Did the one you received have the part number 94555 on it or did it have some other number?

I can't say, for sure. However, with the supply tank configuration utilized on all 1969-72 big blocks, I think I'd want to join the heater hoses. This could easily be done keeping the existing hoses intact simply by using a short length of threaded end pipe with street elbows on each end. Install the ends of the heater hoses to the ends of the elbows. Total cost should be less than 5 bucks and take about 5 minutes to accomplish.

                Thanks Joe,
I have already connected the hoses. I was hoping I could hook the hoses to plugged heater core tubes just so it wouldn't be noticeable to onlookers.
                I'll do some checking......Brad
