    1987 Anti-Lock Brakes failure warning.

I have tried the easy diagnostic steps for my ABS warning light with no results and also have taken the car to my regular mechanic for scanning. He couldn't pull any codes with his tester. He recommends going to the Chevy dealer. As I follow up trying to get this problem diagnosed and then finding the correct, probably discontinued part, can I pull the 10amp fuse that protects the ABS and drive the car? I don't want to burn out the bulb while I pursue a solution. I know that I can drive the car using only the non-ABS brake system. Thanks for your replies.

Richard my 85 C4 does not have anti-lock brakes and I have had no problems driving in the rain, snow, or even icy roads. I would have no hesitation in pulling the anti-lock brake fuse on my 96 C4 if there was a problem.

Jim, thanks for taking the time to reply. Like you I don't think temporarily removing the fuse would affect other systems on the car.

I certainly think you could drive with the fuse pulled, but I am wondering if pulling the fuse will actually turn the light out on the dash. have you tried pulling it ??

You are right on Tom....the brake fuse doesn't include the ABS warning light. I guess GM wanted to motivate owners to address this problem ASAP. If you are driving the car the light will be on. However, this problem will have to wait until I fix the leaking radiator that I discovered this morning! Thanks for your reply.

            Richard:
Just a question. My '86 ABS always makes a soft buzz or faint growl when I first drive off. This is normal according to the owner's manual. Do you hear anything when you first start to drive?

Art: My '87 ABS should also make that sound, I think its a system self-test done once you reach about 4 mph upon first moving. I no longer hear that sound so there is something wrong with the ABS as indicated by the warning light. Thanks for your reply.
