72 Corvette Trim Tag - SPEC vs. SPECIAL

OK, I caught the end of a discussion on another forum about trim tags for two 72 Corvettes that were for sale. Both have unusual trim tags; and both have the same assembly date of H29. One trim tag has a paint code of "SPEC". The other has a paint code of "SPECIAL". The tag with "SPECIAL" also seems to have a "punctuation mark (period or comma) after the trim code of 421. I am puzzled. Thoughts on these tags?

Inasmuch as the stamper was not a brain surgeon or following rules along that line, either both stamps could be correct or one or both could be falsified. Additional info as to actual paint applied would be required.

I would like to know the two serial numbers? Were they by chance sequential? Did one tag get produced as a rsult of the other?

What was it the church lady used to say? "Ain't that special?"

Although this says 73's, how accurate is this information?..............

It is word for word out of the 1970-72 TIM&JG, and I would assUme the same wording is in the 1973> manual as well.

I painted two new Corvettes that were 1974s or 75s while working at Big 4 Chevrolet in Collinsville Il. Both came through in grey primer with silver painted bumper covers and metal trim . Both had two dashes where the paint code would have been . Both were painted AMC purple . Two different owners .

I am aware of a '76, ordered by Mr. Lou Grubb of Lou Grubb Chevrolet with a further variation - "SPCL". Car was painted a Cadillac color "turquoise" - by the Cadillac paint shop.
