    Bell housing bolts 70 L46

Couple questions regarding the bell housing to block bolts.

Were all the bolts identical? All but one of mine have an "A" head mark.

Did they reuse the bolt where the positive battery cable clip attaches to the bell housing or maybe just not install the bolt until the clip was attached during final assembly?

I am asking because if they reused the bolt, it would be painted orange. If not reused, could it be a different bolt and be left unpainted?

    Thanks,

    Bill

My recollection is that all 6 bolts were the same. However, that does not mean that all necessarily had the same headmarking. While "A" was a common headmarking for these bolts, there could have been others, even used on the same car. If the one different bolt you have is a flanged head bolt and has a period-correct headmarking, I would expect it to be original. Is it the exact same length as the other bolts?

The bolt which was also used for the battery cable bracket was installed at the engine plants and removed and re-installed at St. Louis when the bracket was installed.

      Thanks Joe,

My one bolt is wrong. It is a hex head bolt of similar length but has a captured washer and "NAT" as a head mark. I kinda figured as mush but always better to confirm as you never know.
