    69 427 radiator removal

It looks like I'm going to have to re-spray the blackout under the hood and was thinking that the best way to do this was to remove the rad.

I know this is a bear to remove and the last time I did it the hood came off and rad support loosened and tilted forward to get the shroud out but this time the hood will be staying on and the rad support won't be disturbed.

I seem to remember a thread a long time ago about removing the upper "A" arm/stud to allow enough clearance to get the rad shroud out.... Is anyone familiar with this procedure that could give me some advice on how to do this?

    Thanks

Are you spraying blackout backside of the hood or engine bay blackout?? You state "under the hood"......why remove the radiator? The hood was on the car when blackout sequence was done. Maybe some 'splaining is in order.

Well that's what happens when I try and post at 2:30 am.

I'm looking at re-doing the hood and inner fenders because of some bad masking at the painters when he sprayed the top coat.

I'm thinking of removing the radiator so that I can get proper coverage of the inner fenders in those areas.

I realize that the hood was on for paint and blackout so that is why it's staying on for this procedure. Removing it is not an option this time so I'd like to have some advice on removing the upper "A" arm/stud to allow enough clearance to get the rad shroud out. Are these studs only pressed into the frame and do both sides have to come out or just one? I've never done it this way before so any advice is appreciated.

I am sure there are others here that have a lot more experience than me, but I loosened and moved the passenger side upper A arm when I replaced the radiator on my 69 350 air coupe a few years ago. The studs were pressed in as I recall but were not hard to remove. I supported the lower A arm with a floor jack. I didn't want to have to do it that way but it wasn't a bad job. Make sure you keep track of the alignment shims. I found the procedure on this forum, as I recall.
