    Steel Wheel Question

With the help of the Colvin book and searches here, I'm still confused about a steel wheel I finally dropped down from my 67 spare carrier.
    The inside shows 15 x 5 1/2 K and the outside lip is K-1-0 2 valve hole 5.
I recognize this is not a '67 wheel and would appreciate whatever info you can share with me.
    Thanks.

    Regis,
Not much help from me here other than the same thing with my 67. My 4 stock rims were DC and the spare a K (rim only) when I bought the car in 71.

Regis, you said the wheel is not for a 1967. Does it look like a 1967 wheel? The way you described the wheel with the markings you stated it sounds like a stock replacement wheel part # 3869156. This part number is for 1965-1966.

IIRC, all '67s came standard with 15X6 Rally Wheels, unless equipped with optional N89s. I would guess previous year wheels and probably a service replacement.

The date would indicate February 5th 1970 or 80 or 90. Sounds like a replacement wheel to me.

            Re: Steel Wheel Question

Thanks guys. The wheel is not a rally wheel, and it's 15 x 5 1/2. I believe all the rally wheels for 67 were 15 x 6. The rally wheels on the car are coded F I, which I assume is a service replacement. I'm curious about the 5 1/2" inch wheel, and whether it's worth anything to anyone. Would rather see it get a good home than sit in my shop.

                Regis,

Back in Feb. 1980 I bought a 3869156 wheel (15" X 5 1/2" JK) from my local Chevrolet dealer. It was stamped "K 1 8", "3", valve hole, and "16" (March 16, 1978). When I compared it to my original 1966 wheels it was identical except for the stampings. The shipping label (which I still have) to Dobles Chevrolet in Manchester, NH, was from Progress and Winks of Bensalem, PA, and dated 02/07/80.

                Also, back in the late 1980's I bought a 3838080 replacement wheel (15" X 5 1/2" K) for my early 1963 SWC from the same dealership. It was stamped "K 1 86", "1", valve hole, and "7" (Jan. 7, 1986).

Based on your description I would say your wheel is a replacement 1965-1966 Corvette wheel dated Feb. 5, 1970, but a few photos of the wheel would be helpful for confirmation.

                  Re: Steel Wheel Question

Thanks for the reply, Dave. I think you hit the nail on the head. The wheel had an old dry rotted BF Goodrich 6.70 x 15 bias tire on it so the wheel being a 1970 issue makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing your experience.
