    Paul,

I agree. Which is why I would want to make a lesser deduct for a modern AC Delco A212CW filter. But like Mike said, I still wouldn't want to make a 100% for the NAPA filter. Since the installation of the NAPA filter is correct, I'd like to make an 80% or at perhaps a 90% deduct, and then allow some condition credit. I'm sure all of us are never going to come to a perfect consensus on this, but that's the nature of judging by different people on different days. It's not a perfect, 100% repeatable, process when different humans are involved.

The idea in our judging is consistence from a Chapter to the National judging event with that said would a NAPA, Fram, Motorcraft or another manufacture filter ever be installed at the Corvette factory No. An AC Delco filter is what was used hence full credit for an original and partial credit for later service Delco filters and no credit for a filter made by another manufacture. With your ruling a carburetor from any other manufacture other then what was used originally could get 80% or 90% credit because it is installed as part of the CDCIF. I am not being critical but just trying to help you and others understand why and how this full deduction is levied.

        Paul,

I agree that consistency among judging levels is important. I think this full deduct for non-GM parts is something I've learned, forgotten and now learned again. And when it's in my learned phase, it's something that I've never been 100% comfortable with, as I suspect is true with other non-master judges like myself.

whew-- Not to sound corny, but, I'm feeling the passion here (Newbie, but similar passion for these cars, esp. MINE-- pursuing the elusive PV/ Duntov). And yes, Ara, I do research before I post, but after reading through several older posts that don't answer my specific questions, and which have older answers (things change), I feel it's ok to post and benefit from the astute and experienced experts involved here-- thanks, everyone

Agree, Rob. People critical of posters are missing something fundamental about forums-- they are totally VOLUNTARY, and if they criticize new members for posting, they alienate them-- "if you have nothing constructive to say, then say nothing"-- no one is reqiuring anyone to respond. I belong to many forums, and this one has been unusual in its condescention by sanctimonious older members about posting "etiquette". I'm sorry they have nothing better to do. Me, I'm enjoying the efficiency of learning about my new, prized posession (nothing "pushes my buttons" more than driving this car)

Yup! This is the simplest, least expensive and most rational solution to this whole conundrum. As far as I'm concerned, any other solution on the spectrum (i.e. from buying a MEGABUCKS 50 year old NOS filter to using a non-Delco filter) is just NUTS. One can get most of the points (if that matters to one) for "PEANUTS".
